Timeline Summary: After he was rescued from his execution (Episode 43.) He might be a bit pompous about this because his planned death was on par with Jesus and, unlike the bastard, he did not die. Take that religion.

Background: To understand his history, you have to start a few years earlier with the Great Legendary War. The Zangyack Empire was slowly taking over the entire universe and had their sights set on Earth. The 34 Super Sentai teams joined together to fight off the Zangyack invasion. Using all their powers, the super sentai were able to defeat the Zangyack and prevent their attack but they all lost their powers as super sentai. Their powers were transformed into Ranger Keys and scattered across the universe where the spirit of all the red rangers, Aka Red, had donned the moniker of a pirate and started to collect them.

Originating from a distant planet, Marvelous was a common pirate searching for the greatest treasure in the universe and fighting the Zangyack Empire. At the time, he wasn’t a big threat to the Zangyack and even the infamous bounty hunter, Kiaido had fought with Marvelous during this time and let him go because he was too weak (For the longest time, Marvelous had a deep set fear of Kiaido from these events.) While stealing from their warehouses, Marvelous found the Akaranger key, not knowing what it was until Aka Red arrived asking for the key. Realizing it must be important if another pirate was asking for it, Marvelous refused to give it to him and fought him but, when Aka Red won, he handed it over easily. Marvelous wasn’t looking for anything in particular but, if the myth of the Greatest Treasure in the Universe existed, than he wanted to try looking for it. Aka Red stated that if he gave up something, he will never get it and allowed Marvelous to join the Red Pirates.

The Red Pirates was a notorious rebel force against the Zangyack worth about 12 million zagins and was lead by Aka Red. The other crew members were another pirate named Basco Ta Jolokia (Bounty: 3 million) who provided cooking along with his sneaky tactics and a robotic parrot named Navi that could tell the location of the treasure one it had a concussion. The four of them searched the universe on the Gokai Galleon, Aka Reds flying red ship, and collected all the Ranger Keys they could find. Once they found enough keys that Aka Red thought they would be able to get the greatest treasure in the universe, the Zangyack attacked them and infiltrated their ship on the orders of Basco. Shooting Marvelous in the process, Basco reveals that he had gotten greedy and only wanted the treasure for himself. His theory was if he was going to gain something then he had to throw something else away first so figured if he abandoned the Red Pirates, he would get the treasure. Aka Red told Marvelous to run as he fought off Basco and Zangyack to distract them and let Marvelous escape. However, running out of the ship, he ended up at a dead end and was trapped with Zangyack soldiers called Gormins approaching until Aka Red returned with the chest taken back from Basco and told Marvelous to take the Ranger Keys, the ship and Navi and go get the greatest treasure before going back into the battle to chase Zangyack off the ship so Marvelous could escape with the ship. Aka Red was killed in the battle.

Off on his own, Marvelous took the Ranger Keys and Navi and went off through the universe. With all the Ranger Keys in his possession, he ended up taking the set of Gokaiger keys and keeping one for himself, GokaiRed. Ending up at a destroyed planet that was now under Zangyack control, he stumbled across a man being chased down by Gormin and higher ranked soldiers, Sugormin, but still managing to fight back. Impressed with this man’s swordsmanship, he approached to help him fight back. Although the man said he couldn’t pay him, Marvelous didn’t care stating that he wasn’t looking for money but, he will take him instead and the two of them defeated the Gormins. The man, Joe Gibken, was a Zangyack soldier who defected and became a traitor so the Gormins and Sugormins were chasing him thanks to a tracking collar around his neck and if he were to try and take it off, he would get an electrical shock that would kill him. Marvelous grabbed on to the collar with his bare hands, startling Joe in the process but, Marvelous simply grinned at him and, despite the shock going through both of them, was able to rip it off and the two collapsed.

Marvelous told Joe his goal was to get the greatest treasure in the universe and that he would take Joe with him. Joe confirmed his loyalty to Marvelous from that point on and said that he would follow him to get his dream. Marvelous then gave Joe the Ranger Key to become GokaiBlue.

The two of them weren’t alone for long as they recruited the rest of the five man team. Luka Millfy, a homeless thief that they found robbing a Zangyack vault became GokaiYellow, Don Dogoier a refugee mechanic that agreed to fix the ship (that the first three broke) became GokaiGreen (and Marvelous gave him the nickname ‘Hakase’) and Ahim, a princess of a destroyed planet had sought them out to join the crew and became GokaiPink. Zangyack took note of this group and put a bounty on each of their heads, giving them false charges of piracy but, Marvelous didn’t care about the Zangyack and accepted the name of pirate. With their team formed, they headed to where the Greatest Treasure in the Universe was said to be located; Earth.

However Zangyack was already at Earth. The Emperor’s son, Warz Gil, was preparing a second strike on Earth to claim it as another colony. Unfortunately, this decision was at the exact same time that the Gokaigers were there to get the greatest treasure. After taking down a frontline fleet of Zangyack battleships, the Gokaigers made their appearance on Earth and asked to a crowd of people where the greatest treasure in the universe was but, to their dismay, no one on earth knew what it even was. A disappointed Marvelous declared at that point that it was time for lunch, told Luka to sell her ring so they could get this planet’s cash and then, despite getting 10 million for the ring, decided to eat at a cheap curry place instead. Just when they were about to dig in, Zangyack had blown up place.

For the most part, because they were just pirates, they weren’t an active force in fighting Zangyack unless provoked. If they were to defend the Earth, they would be constantly pursued so the original option for them was to run back to the ship and leave because it was not their problem. However, while watching a Zangyack commander attack a group of children, Marvelous didn’t like what he was seeing and went in to fight them off with his crew behind him, transforming into their sentai forms along with forms of previous sentai Goranger, Shinkenger and Magiranger.

Once the fight ended, it was clear that they were going to be considered more of a threat to Zangyack and be pursued by them. The small children they were defending came up to thank them but, the group merely shrugged them off and Marvelous stated the only reason they fought was because the Zangyack interrupted their curry lunch so he wasn’t able to eat.

Being on Earth, they were finally able to have questions answered that they were not aware of before. The Ranger Keys were once the powers of the 34 sentai teams that defended Earth and a young magician and the previous MagiRed, Kai Ozu, had told them that the greatest treasure can only be obtained once they received the Grand Powers of the 34 previous sentai. To do that, they had to meet with a member of each team and prove themselves worthy so they can earn their powers for themselves. With that said, he gave them their first grand power of the Magirangers.

The rest of the time on earth was spent with them deciphering Navi’s cryptic predictions, finding members of the previous sentai teams and getting their Grand Powers. Many previous sentai were wary simply because they were space pirates, a few even demanded them to return their powers to them but nonetheless, members of the team were able to convince them otherwise and slowly, they had received the powers of Dekarangers, Gekirangers, Gaorangers, Shinkengers and Carrangers.

When Navi predicted danger approaching, Basco had made his reappearance as a Zangyack privateer. He was still trying to obtain the Greatest Treasure in the universe as well and, through word of a Zangyack official, he found out that it was on Earth and also that he needs to Grand Powers.

Marvelous was a little miffed to see that traitor again. He was so miffed he tried shooting him in the face.

Afterwards, Marvelous was reluctantly forced to tell his past to the crew and how Basco betrayed the Red Pirates before the troll called him and he went to confront him one on one. His crew however decided to follow him and pass it off as merely coincidence that they were there, which was good for him since Basco revealed he had more Ranger Keys that Marvelous never knew about and summoned five warriors to fight for him. Despite being able to defeat the five summoned Ranger Keys, Basco had summoned ten more to defeat and capture Marvelous’ crew, telling him that if he wanted them back, he would have to give up something for them, specifically all the Ranger Keys, the Gokai Galleon and Navi.

While Basco held the four crew members prisoner, Marvelous contemplated the choice between his crew and his dream, thinking back to when he first met Aka Red and his words that if he were to give up something he would never get it. Marvelous came to the conclusion that this was not Basco’s decision for him to make but his own and agreed to meet up with the privateer with the Ranger Keys in hand. Basco brought the others and met with Marvelous and although he brought the keys, he had no intention on giving them to him, nor did he intend to let Basco keep his crew. To Marvelous, Basco’s ‘to gain something you must lose something’ theory didn’t work for him so he would go with the way of a pirate and just take everything he wanted. His crew freed during the battle, Basco was forced to retreat, leaving behind the 10 Ranger Keys he used to defeat the Gokaigers before.

Shortly after their first trifle with Basco, the Goseigers made their appearance, stealing back their keys and able to transform into their ranger forms, stating that they will use their powers to protect the Earth. Marvelous, irked by their actions, demanded the keys back so they could get the treasure and the two sentai teams were in a conflict over the ranger keys. However, typical plot happened where a common enemy showed up and the two teams put aside their differences to fight for the greater good. Teaming up with the Goseigers, the teams had received the Grand Powers of Gorangers, JAKQ, Denjiman, Goggle V, Dynaman, Bioman, Turboranger, Dairanger, Boukenger, Go-Onger and, of course, the Goseigers themselves.

Navi made another prediction that they will need to find a ‘silver man.’ Originally they thought it was a previous sentai but, the only ‘silver’ man they found was a fat guy in a jogging suit. A younger boy approached them, saying he wanted to join the crew but, Marvelous ignored him up until the point where the boy had transformed into Gokai Silver and said he had the Grand Powers of Timeranger, Zyuranger and Abarangers. Marvelous still denied him from his crew, knowing that if he were to join he would become a target of Zangyack and didn’t know if Gai was just wanting to be a hero or actually wanted to commit to the idea of saving the planet. Gai eventually gained Marvelous’ approval for his reckless behaviour and, because he was a sentai fanboy, he deciphered Navi’s clues instantly so they were able to get the Grand Powers of Gingaman, Go Go V, Hurricanger, Jetman, Liveman, Ohranger, and Megaranger.

Each time they would look for a Grand Power, Basco had arrived to stop them and get it himself. Seems that the trumpet that he used to summon the ranger keys also had the ability to steal the powers of sentai who had yet to give their Grand Powers away. Basco was able to steal the Grand Powers of Sun Vulcan, Fiveman, Changeman, Flashman and Maskman. After the first encounter with Gingaman, Marvelous was getting paranoid that Basco’s interference would destroy his chance to get his dream. It wasn’t until former BoukenRed dropped in that he was able to re-teach Marvelous the joys of the adventure once again and not just worry about the final destination.

Marvelous’ confrontations with Zangyack were sparse but still prevalent because they kept getting in the way once Marvelous and his crew started to appreciate the people of Earth and began to protect it like they would their own planets. Defeating Gormin and Sugormin was almost a daily occurrence and eventually, the leader of the convoy, Warz Gil, got fed up and went down himself with a giant mecha robot of his own. He was able to defeat the Gokaigers, forcing Marvelous to put himself between his crew so they could survive, but after having a spiritual talk with the deceased AkaRed, Marvelous came to his realization that he didn’t need to protect his crew because he was captain. They all shared a bond and were fighting for the same dream and because they were pirates, they would keep going forward together to get their dream. With that declaration, they were able to use their own Grand Power, Kanzen Gokaioh.

Needless to say, Warz Gil died epicly in battle. So epicly that his father, the Emperor himself, came to earth to take over his son’s mission and the bodyguard, Damaras, went to get revenge on the Gokaigers for killing the prince.

Damaras had co-erced Basco into helping him defeat the Gokaigers, killing four members of the crew before capturing Marvelous and taking him to the Gigant Horse (leaving cowardly Don/Gokai Green alive because Damaras thought he was no one important.) The Emperor had declared that Marvelous would be publicly executed on Earth.

So they chained him to a cross.

Don had arrived to save him with Navi’s help and Marvelous was able to escape his sentence. The other four members of the crew arrived revealing that Basco had only pretended to kill them, giving the privateer a chance to stab Damaras in the back. Literally. Basco kept the Gokaiger’s alive because he needed their help to find the last two Grand Powers so, with the crew back together, they defeated Damaras. The consequences of their actions had resulted in Don's bounty going up to 300,000 zagins, Navi getting a bounty of 50 zagins and Basco being counted as a traitor as well and getting a 10 million zagin bounty on his head.

At this point, there is only two Grand Powers left to obtain: Battle Fever J and Kakuranger.

Personality: Marvelous is arrogant, cocky and will go headfirst recklessly into danger simply because it looks fun and bring his crew down with him. With an unlimited bounty on his head, Marvelous goes with the pirate ideal quite strongly because if he was going to be labeled as one to begin with, he might as well live it up to the fullest. He makes the claim that his decisions to go into things headfirst, taking what he wants and doing what he likes is what a pirate would normally do and will go ahead and do what he wants to satisfy his own curiosity. There are rare occasions where Marvelous will use strategy and planning ahead but, those times are few and far between compared to his reckless approach and if something were to interrupt him, he would beat them down and continue towards his goal. He’s consistently blunt and to the point when he wants something and also when he doesn’t give a damn about what is going on. Even when faced with people of different status and customs, he doesn’t appear to want to change his own attitude or hide who he is to appease other people. His attitude and his pirate title made it difficult for some previous sentai (specific examples being the space police and a samurai lord) to think of him to be worthy of their power but he stated to them that it didn’t matter what their opinions were of him. He doesn’t care if the whole universe is against him as long as he has his pride and honour, he will continue on with his way.

Despite his carefree attitude, he cares deeply for his crew members and they are in return loyal to him. Marvelous’ crew is his family. They eat their meals together, they fight together, they clean the ship together and spend all of their spare time with each other and that’s the way Marvelous likes it. He would willingly get between an attack from an enemy towards his comrades, even if chances of surviving were slim and will put himself on the front line if danger approached to protect them. Basco kidnapped them and telling Marvelous that he had to trade the ranger keys and the galleon to get them back lead Marvelous with a hard decision because he cared about his crew enough that he would give up his dream for them. Also, when he originally stated he did not care for the planet or it’s people, he still would go out of his way to protect them when the Zangyack attacked because he knew right from wrong. He will put himself between an attack towards a civilian in the same manner he would protect his crew because, despite his claims to being a simple pirate, he can truly be considered a hero. However, Marvelous would still state that the Zangyack was simply in his way.

Marvelous is a bit of a softie when it comes to hearing about people’s goals and dreams because he puts his own dreams in such high regards and can relate to others when hearing about their own dreams. Because he is trying his best to obtain his own dream, he will go out of his way to help others obtain theirs, such as when he was helping train a high school basketball team because they wanted to make nationals.

When he was with the Red Pirates, Marvelous looked up to AkaRed as his mentor ever since he was allowed to join his crew, taking his role seriously to help him and Basco find Ranger Keys so they can get the greatest treasure in the universe. Since Basco’s defecting to Zangyack, AkaRed had entrusted Marvelous with the Ranger Keys, the Galleon and Navi and told him to go find the greatest treasure in the universe before going into battle. Marvelous took AkaRed’s words to heart and since then, despite not knowing exactly what the greatest treasure is or how to get it, it has been his dream and driving force to obtain the greatest treasure in the universe and follow out AkaRed’s will.

However, asking Marvelous about his time with the Red Pirates is, as another Marvelous roleplayer had so elequently put it, similar to asking a veteran about the Vietnam war. You just don’t do it because there will be suffering on all parts; especially for the person asking.

Another motivation of his is simply food. He claims he can’t think well when he’s hungry and he has a voracious appetite simply by seeing the amount of food he can eat in one sitting and him constantly snacking or stealing food from Don. He also eats ridiculously fast, able to finish off a meal before the more polite eaters are able to finish their salads. Also if their meals are abandoned due to some distraction, they lose it to Marvelous and he will eat it without hesitation (actually, the other members will just hand the meals over to Marvelous for him to eat. Clearly, he has them trained well.)

While there is no doubt that Marvelous is definitely a leader, there is a slight chance that he may take being in charge a little too far. He sometimes give odd orders to the rest of his crew based on his own whims or wants and occasionally gives orders that are rather strange. It actually seems that most of his orders, that don’t involve finding Grand Powers, revolve around food to satisfy his massive appetite. His headstrong attitude also makes it impossible for him to successfully cheat or go undercover without being caught, meaning he sucks at poker, something all his other crewmates (even Ahim!) are able to do better than him.

However Marvelous knows his limits in his own abilities and that his strengths can also be his weakness. Because he knows of what he lacks, he thoughtfully chose his crew based on abilities that he didn’t have himself which he knew made them a good team both in parts and as a whole. Joe was very calm, an expert swordsman and knew Zangyack’s operations well, Luka had underhanded tactics and knew how to cheat, Don was a brilliant mechanic/housewife and Ahim was the most polite and diplomatic of the group. The inclusion of Gai was because he was as enthusiastic and reckless and he was, which was something Marvelous was happy to see in a person. Also, while he didn’t need them all to pilot the ship, the five of them are needed to operate Gokaioh, something he wouldn’t have been able to do alone.

Marvelous doesn’t fear much (after he got over his crippling fear of Kiaido) but he hates being made a fool of, much like Joe and Luka. The three of them have a strong sense of pride in themselves so, they all take a defeat much more personally. The trip are very similar to each other and have a much closer bond than they do with the others but, if it was just the three of them, they would be dead and they know it. Don’s addition meant the ship was clean and the food was homecooked and Ahim’s presence presented any fights from breaking out between the others because with their headstrong personalities, no matter how much they liked each other, they were still gonna fight now and then.

Powers, Skills, and Abilities: Marvelous is an expert fighter and marksman, using both a sabre and a pistol when fighting and is strong in hand to hand combat. He doesn’t favour one weapon over the other and will often use both in battle, able to shoot his gun with his left hand just as good as his right. Although his gun and sabre are both part of his GokaiRed arsenal, he doesn't need to be transformed to be able to use them. He keeps his aim sharp by playing darts and increasing the strength in his swing by using a heavily weighted bracelet to make throwing the darts much harder than normal. However, without knowing about how heavy that bracelet was, most people would just assume he was bored and wasting time instead of actually training, making people severely underestimate exactly how strong he is.

His sentai powers comes from his Mobirate (Which acts as a cellphone) and the Ranger Keys which are all contained in a large pirate chest and linked to their belts for their own use. With the Ranger Keys, he can transform either into his own form, GokaiRed, or into sentai of the past, usually favouring the sentai with the red colour scheme. Each key has the power of a different sentai series from the past and, when transformed into them, they gain their weaponry and special powers even if those abilities aren’t necessarily his own. Using the example of Magirangers, wizard based sentai, if Marvelous transformed into MagiRed he would gain that sentai’s magical spells in fire, transformation and other spells as long as he was transformed although he is not as good at these spells compared to the original Magired.

The keys also can be added to the gun or sabre for a final wave attack.

The Gokaigers also have a team powered hand held cannon, the Gokai Galleon Buster, which requires five keys to charge it before it shoots a projectile that looks like the front of their ship. This projectile is strong enough to break the strongest of shields and was introduced in episode 32. Also, because Marvelous is in front holding it and the others are behind him as support, it looks vaguely like Joe and Don took the opportunity to cop a feel of his behind. They are a tight knit group of pirates. That's all I'm saying.

The Mobirates and keys aren’t exactly an ability that’s specific just to him. There have been occasions where they would switch Mobirates between team members and still be able to use them with the keys and also times where normal citizens have gotten a hold of a key and Mobirate and were able to transform as well.

Although Marvelous has the power to transform into any ranger as long as he has the key, he particularly favours the ones that are red in colour, including the red coloured additional heroes such as TimeFire and WolzordFire.

After discovering that his own was not a part of his possessions, taking the one from his crew mate was the obvious choice and, with his rank over her, Marvelous simply held out his hand and the piece of machinery that he was so familiar with was now with him. This place was not any planet he had ever heard of before and, he traveled across the whole universe. However, the seclusion, the one city on a wasteland of a planet, it was no different than any Zangyack run planet after they destroyed the previous civilization and slowly rebuilt it in their image.

Even if it wasn’t Zangyack, being encapsulated on this planet did not work with his plans. He wanted off. Now.

So, Marvelous, finding a secluded enough location on the roof of a building, dialed the familiar number to summon his ship.

Right now, the Gokai Galleon should be floating across the sky in its bright red glory...

Any second now….

…..Just a minute….

…..Where the hell was his ship?

Crossing his arms and frowning at the horizon, Marvelous wasn’t expecting a sudden jolt and the sound of a very large crash off in the distance.

One of the large orbs that were floating around the city past the barrier now had his ship stuck halfway in it.

Marvelous blinked for a second at the odd sight but smirked. At least his ship was now in the general area.

The question now was how to get over there to go fetch it.
