History: To understand his history, you have to start a few years earlier with the Great Legendary War. The Zangyack Empire was slowly taking over the entire universe and had their sights set on Earth. The 34 Super Sentai teams joined together to fight off the Zangyack invasion. Using all their powers, the super sentai were able to defeat the Zangyack and prevent their attack but they all lost their powers as super sentai. Their powers were transformed into Ranger Keys and scattered across the universe where the spirit of all the red rangers, Aka Red, had donned the moniker of a pirate and started to collect them.

Originating from a distant planet, Marvelous was a pirate searching for the greatest treasure in the universe and fighting the Zangyack Empire. While stealing from their warehouses, Marvelous found the Akaranger key, not knowing what it was until Aka Red arrived asking for the key. Realizing it must be important if another pirate was asking for it, Marvelous refused to give it to him and fought him but, when Aka Red won, he handed it over easily. Marvelous wasn’t looking for anything in particular but, if the myth of the Greatest Treasure in the Universe Existed than he wanted to try looking for it. Aka Red stated that if he gave up something, he will never get it and allowed Marvelous to join the Red Pirates.

The Red Pirates was a notorious rebel force against the Zangyack under Aka Red as captain. The other crew members were another pirate named Basco Ta Jolokia who provided cooking along with his sneaky tactics and a robotic parrot named Navi that could tell the location of the treasure. The four of them searched the universe on the Gokai Galleon, Aka Reds flying red ship, and collected all the Ranger Keys they could find. Once they found enough keys that Aka Red thought they would be able to get the greatest treasure in the universe, the Zangyack attacked them and infiltrated their ship on the orders of Basco. Shooting Marvelous in the process, Basco reveals that he had gotten greedy and only wanted the treasure for himself. His theory was if he was going to gain something then he had to throw something else away first so figured if he abandoned the Red Pirates, he would get the treasure. Aka Red told Marvelous to run as he fought off Basco and Zangyack to distract them and let Marvelous escape. However, running out of the ship, he ended up at a dead end and was trapped with Zangyack soldiers called Gormins approaching until Aka Red returned with the chest taken back from Basco and told Marvelous to take the Ranger Keys, the ship and Navi and go get the greatest treasure before going back into the battle to chase Zangyack off the ship so Marvelous could escape with the ship. Aka Red was not seen from again.

Off on his own, Marvelous took the Ranger Keys and Navi and went off through the universe. With all the Ranger Keys in his possession, he ended up taking the set of Gokaiger keys and keeping one for himself, GokaiRed. Ending up at a destroyed planet that was now under Zangyack control, he stumbled across a man being chased down by Gormin and higher ranked soldiers, Sugormin, but still managing to fight back. Impressed with this man’s swordsmanship, he approached to help him fight back. Although the man said he couldn’t pay him, Marvelous didn’t care stating that he wasn’t looking for money but, he will take him instead and the two of them defeated the Gormins. The man, Joe Gibken, was a Zangyack soldier who defected and became a traitor so the Gormins and Sugormins were chasing him thanks to a tracking collar around his neck and if he were to try and take it off, he would get an electrical shock that would kill him. Marvelous grabbed on to the collar with his bare hands, startling Joe in the process but, Marvelous simply grinned at him and, despite the shock going through both of them, was able to rip it off and the two collapsed.

Marvelous told Joe his goal was to get the greatest treasure in the universe and that he would take Joe with him. Joe confirmed his loyalty to Marvelous from that point on and said that he would follow him to get his dream. Marvelous then gave him the Ranger Key to become GokaiBlue.

The two of them weren’t alone for long as they recruited the rest of the five man team. Luka Millfy, a homeless thief and treasure hunter became GokaiYellow, Don ‘Doc’ Dogoier a mechanic who also knew how to cook became GokaiGreen and Ahim, a princess of a destroyed planet became GokaiPink. Zangyack took note of this group and put a bounty on each of their heads, giving them false charges of piracy but, Marvelous didn’t care about the Zangyack and accepted the name of pirate. With their team formed, they headed to where the Greatest Treasure in the Universe was said to be located; Earth.

However Zangyack was already at Earth. The Emperor’s son, Oiles Gil, was preparing a second strike on Earth to claim it as another colony at the time that the Gokaigers were there to get the greatest treasure. After taking down a frontline fleet of Zangyack battleships, the Gokaigers made their appearance on Earth and asked to a crowd of people where the greatest treasure in the universe was but, to their dismay, no one on earth knew what it even was. A disappointed Marvelous declared at that point that it was time for lunch, told Luka to sell her ring so they could get this planet’s cash and then, despite getting 10 million for the ring, decided to eat at a cheap curry place instead. Just when they were about to dig in, Zangyack had blown up place.

For the most part, because they were just pirates, they weren’t an active force in fighting Zangyack unless provoked. If they were to defend the Earth, they would be constantly pursued so the original option for them was to run back to the ship and leave. However, while watching a Zangyack commander attack a group of children, Marvelous didn’t like what he was seeing and went in to fight them off with his crew behind him, transforming into their sentai forms along with forms of previous sentai Goranger, Shinkenger and Magiranger.

Once the fight ended, it was clear that they were going to be considered more of a threat to Zangyack and be pursued by them. The small children they were defending came up to thank them but, the group merely shrugged them off and Marvelous stated the only reason they fought was because the Zangyack interrupted their curry lunch so he wasn’t able to eat.

Being on Earth, they were finally able to have questions answered that they were not aware of before. The Ranger Keys were once the powers of the 34 sentai teams that defended Earth and a young magician and the previous MagiRed, Kai Ozu, had told them that the greatest treasure can only be obtained once they received the Grand Powers of the 34 previous sentai. To do that, they had to meet with a member of each team and prove themselves worthy so they can earn their powers for themselves. With that said, he gave them their first grand power of the Magirangers.

The rest of the time on earth was spent with them deciphering Navi’s cryptic predictions, finding members of the previous sentai teams and getting their Grand Powers. Many previous sentai were wary simply because they were space pirates, a few even demanded them to return their powers to them but nonetheless, members of the team were able to convince them otherwise and slowly, they were gathering the Grand Powers.

When Navi predicted danger approaching, Basco had made his reappearance as a Zangyack privateer. He was still trying to obtain the Greatest Treasure in the universe as well and, through word of Zangyack officials, he found out that it was on Earth and also that he needs to Grand Powers. Marvelous was forced to tell his past to the crew and how Basco betrayed the Red Pirates before he went to confront him one on one. His crew however decided to follow him and pass it off as merely coincidence that they were there, which was good for him since Basco revealed he had more Ranger Keys that Marvelous never knew about and summoned five warriors to fight for him. Despite being able to defeat the five summoned Ranger Keys, Basco had summoned ten more to defeat and capture Marvelous’ crew, telling him that if he wanted them back, he would have to give up something for them, specifically all the Ranger Keys, the Gokai Galleon and Navi.

While Basco held the four prisoner, Marvelous contemplated the choice between his crew and his dream, thinking back to when he first met Aka Red and his words that if he were to give up something he would never get it. Marvelous came to the conclusion that this was not Basco’s decision for him to make but his own and agreed to meet up with the privateer with the Ranger Keys in hand. Basco brought the others and met with Marvelous and although he brought the keys, he had no intention on giving them to him, nor did he intend to let Basco keep his crew. To Marvelous, Basco’s ‘to gain something you must lose something’ theory didn’t work for him so he would go with the way of a pirate and just take everything he wanted. His crew freed during the battle, Basco was forced to retreat, leaving behind the 10 Ranger Keys he used to defeat the Gokaigers before.

At this point, this was where the movie happened but, because it was in theatres in Japan, I have no access to it until it goes on dvd and someone uploads it online. So, with that said, this will be the end point of canon history.

Abilities & Physical Abnormalities: Marvelous is an expert fighter and marksman, using both a sabre and a pistol when fighting and strong in hand to hand combat. He doesn’t favour one weapon over the other and will often use both in battle, able to shoot his gun with his left hand just as good as his right. Although his gun and sabre are both part of his GokaiRed arsenal, he doesn't need to be transformed to be able to use them. He keeps his aim sharp by playing darts and increasing the strength in his swing by using a heavily weighted bracelet to make throwing the darts much harder than normal. However, without knowing about how heavy that bracelet was, most people would just assume he was bored and wasting time instead of actually training, making people severely underestimate exactly how strong he is.

His sentai powers comes from his Mobirate (Which acts as a cellphone) and the Ranger Keys which are all contained in a large pirate chest and linked to their belts for their own use. With the Ranger Keys, he can transform either into his own form, GokaiRed, or into sentai of the past, usually favouring the sentai with the red colour scheme. Each key has the power of a different sentai series from the past and, when transformed into them, they gain their weaponry and special powers even if those abilities aren’t necessarily his own. Using the example of Magirangers, wizard based sentai, if Marvelous transformed into MagiRed he would gain that sentai’s magical spells in fire, transformation and other spells as long as he was transformed although he is not as good at these spells compared to the original Magired.

The keys also can be added to the gun or sabre for a final wave attack.

The Mobirates and keys aren’t exactly an ability that’s specific just to him. There have been occasions where they would switch Mobirates between team members and still be able to use them with the keys and also times where normal citizens have gotten a hold of a key and Mobirate and were able to transform as well.

Personality:

Marvelous is arrogant, cocky and will go headfirst recklessly into danger simply because it looks fun and bring his crew down with him. With a bounty of 5 million on his head, Marvelous goes with the pirate ideal quite strongly because if he was going to be labelled as one to begin with, he might as well live it up to the fullest. He makes the claim that his decisions to go into things headfirst, taking what he wants and doing what he likes is what a pirate would normally do and will go ahead and do what he wants to satisfy his own curiosity. There are rare occasions where Marvelous will use strategy and planning ahead but, those times are few and far between compared to his reckless approach and if something were to interrupt him, he would beat them down and continue towards his goal. He’s consistently blunt and to the point when he wants something and also when he doesn’t give a damn about what is going on. Even when faced with people of different status and customs, he doesn’t appear to want to change his own attitude or hide who he is to appease other people. His attitude and his pirate title made it difficult for some previous sentai (specific examples being the space police and a samurai lord) to think of him to be worthy of their power but he stated to them that it didn’t matter what their opinions were of him. He doesn’t care if the whole universe is against him as long as he has his pride and honour, he will continue on with his way.

Despite his carefree attitude, he cares deeply for his crew members and they are in return loyal to him. He would willingly get between an attack from an enemy towards his comrades, even if chances of surviving were slim. Basco kidnapped them and telling Marvelous that he had to trade the ranger keys and the galleon to get them back lead Marvelous with a hard decision because he cared about his crew enough that he would give up his dream for them. Also, when he originally stated he did not care for the planet or it’s people, he still would go out of his way to protect them when the Zangyack attacked because he knew right from wrong. However, Marvelous would still state that the Zangyack was simply in his way when most of the time, it wasn’t the case.

When he was with the Red Pirates looked up to AkaRed as his mentor ever since he was allowed to join his crew, taking his role seriously to help him and Basco find Ranger Keys so they can get the greatest treasure in the universe. Since Basco’s defecting to Zangyack, AkaRed had entrusted Marvelous with the Ranger Keys, the Galleon and Navi and told him to go find the greatest treasure in the universe before going into battle and never being seen again. Marvelous took AkaRed’s words to heart and since then, despite not knowing exactly what the greatest treasure is or how to get it, it has been his dream and driving force to obtain the greatest treasure in the universe and follow out AkaRed’s will. Another motivation of his is simply food. He claims he can’t think well when he’s hungry and he has a voracious appetite simply by seeing the amount of food he can eat in one sitting and him constantly snacking or stealing food from Don.

While there is no doubt that Marvelous is definitely a leader, there is a slight chance that he may take being in charge a little too far. He sometimes give odd orders to the rest of his crew based on his own whims or wants and occasionally gives orders that are rather strange. It actually seems that most of his orders revolve around food to satisfy his massive appetite. His headstrong attitude also makes it impossible for him to successfully cheat or go undercover, meaning he sucks at poker.

However Marvelous knows his limits in his own abilities and that his strengths can also be his weakness. Because he knows of what he lacks, he thoughtfully chose his crew based on abilities that he didn’t have himself which he knew made them a good team both in parts and as a whole. Joe was very calm, an expert swordsman and knew Zangyack’s operations well, Luka had underhanded tactics and knew how to cheat, Don was a brilliant mechanic and Ahim was the most polite and diplomatic of the group. Also, while he didn’t need them all to pilot the ship, the five of them can operate Gokaioh, something he wouldn’t have been able to do alone.

What are your plans for the character in-game? Get a galleon (not a dingy. A giant mofo of a ship. In bright red.) But Marvelous will simply do as he wishes, despite getting in the way and possibly getting himself into fights with the SeeD cadets who get in his way. He’s not opposed to fight authority figures and has been arrested before for doing so. Also, could be fun for him to end up as a bright red spandex clad vigilante of sorts and have no one know who he is and even use other ranger keys so it appears as if there are multiple superheroes when it’s just him.

Anything else? the sentai powers can be a bit god-mod like depending on which they use (Transform themselves as other people with Magiranger’s magic, Ninja style arts with either Kakuranger or Hurricanger, etc)but, Marvelous only has the bare minimum of the previous sentai’s knowledge and abilities. Permission will be asked first before using them in certain situations.

He had no ship.

He had no crew.

He had no way to continue on with his dream without being on Earth where the Greatest treasure in the universe resided.

And he was hungry.

Sitting on a wooden crate in the port with his mobirate in hand, Marvelous looked at the unfamiliar ocean while he sat alone on this equally unfamiliar shore. Normally, he would sell something of Luka’s because she had expensive things but she wasn’t here either and he wasn’t going to sell his own things. But without this place’s currency he didn’t have many options other than the direct approach.

Standing up, Marvelous walked around this pier in hopes to find some civilian walking by and finally found an older man unloading some crates.

“Oi, Jii-san,” Marvelous called to the nearby worker who perked up. Confused at the term, the man approached and Marvelous gave him a grin, walking straight up to the man before pulling his gun from inside his coat and pointing at him between the eyes.

“You don’t understand what I’m saying,” Marvelous spoke up in his native tongue as the man stared at him wide eyed and scared. “I could use some food,” He said while patting his stomach hoping the elder would get the hint, “Mind buying me something to eat?”
